An internship for this summer? At larger tech companies, headcount for summer intern are completely filled by the spring, so these roles have long been filled. Have you looked to see if the companies you tagged even have graphic design intern roles available at this time?
Yes I have, and unfortunately I couldn’t get an internship this year, and the ones that I did get were scams, and were raising huge red flags (if they overpromise, or if the interview is in a weird place GTFO). So instead I want to prepare for next year, by seeking a mentorship, rebuilding my portfolio, networking, and hopefully getting referrals by other designers. I currently work retail at a local mall, but I do want to build myself as a designer.
Do you have a portfolio already? Do you want to focus on your graphic design brand and marketing work, or product design UI/UX? Your portfolio needs to be tailored specifically towards either brand design or product design. Consider ADPList for design mentorship instead. Also regarding mentorship, “Can you be my mentor” or “can you help my career become X” is too vague. What is getting in your way? What specifically can your mentor do for you? How do you even know if they are even the right person? It can’t be someone else’s job to discern what you need.
