I just got a verbal offer from Meta. What teams would you recommend for a senior designer? (L5) Looking for - Growth in my craft - Opportunities to work on cross functional projects that are larger in scope than a single flow or page - Design mentorship on my team - Work life balance (being offline on weekends and evenings) - collaborative culture - interesting / fun product with space for creative solutions #design #interviews #ui/ux #meta #teammatching
VR AI workstreams are fascinating from design needs with great set of XFN people. Horizon creator tooling has awesome design team, very collaborative.
What kinda creator tools do you make? What do you think makes it interesting? Is it because it’s a new space so the team is coming up with new interactions and affordances?
YOE?

Hey OP can i DM?
Sure!
Avoid the infra / data infra / dev infra spaces. Super racist and sexist.
Thanks for the warning
I would avoid infra spaces too. Pretty much eng dominant space with short term metric chasing projects.
Congrats did you match with a team?

Instagram and Messenger orgs might be a good fit if you work on a core surface. Lots of people up level their craft on those teams (lots of emphasis on prototyping and visual craft), but it can be rather competitive & cut throat since its bloated with a bunch of senior talent.
Thanks! That’s good to know that it’s a place to up-level my craft. When you say bloated, does that mean that people are fighting for promo or to keep their jobs? Or that people are doing duplicate work? Usually when a team is bloated, I imagine that the workload might be lighter because it’s shared.
Fighting for promo, fighting for scope. The features are not that large so there’s a lot of senior talent being asked to strategize the same surface and it can feel toxic at times. Workload is light if you coast but hard if you’re chasing promo because the pie is only so big and everyone needs to prove that they’re carving out their own slice. I’d say job security is pretty stable. No sense of fighting to keep jobs. PD roles at IG and Messenger were less hit during layoffs because they’re already pretty lean versus the giant teams in other platforms
Hey OP did you join the meta team match discord yet?
Not yet. When / how can I join it?
Where you gonna be based? Narrows down possible org and team choices.
I’m gonna be in New York. (Open to Tokyo too haha)
