Would leaving my job be a bad idea for $100k+ TC?
I’m super comfortable (but bored) at a FAANG company. I’m very lucky to be getting tons of interest from other companies (Stripe, Coinbase, Meta, Amazon, Square, startups) but I don’t want to take a pay cut…and I have no idea what the market is paying for designers now. What are some of the crazier total comp offers out there? Am I missing out? YOE: 10 TC: $323K
Coinbase senior is 400, staff is 600 all in but it sounds hectic. Meta IC6+ is a significant bump for you.
Hectic how?
You can read around Blind to get an idea. Culture and WLB are not why you go there, recruiters are very up front about how they “sprint and recharge”. They pay great for design though.
with 10 YOE, you could probably get IC6 (staff level) at meta, ~420-440K TC (220 base)
Already did 4 years there and it destroyed me.
May i ask why it destroyed you?
Dropbox design completely blew past my other Fb G DD and a couple other offers, although I’m in SF. My wife is at Google and I came in almost $100k more than her tdc and she is in Eng. I work with a lot of exG and very talented product designers. Wlb is awesome (mtgs are between 9-1p), virtual first, being a smaller company (design team is maybe 350 people?) means I am getting to know everyone which is fun, better at home perks than G (peloton, food reimbursement, unlimited pto with a company holiday per month). Design has a big seat at the table, uxr often leads strategy, and I really like our design leaders. There are also very clear career ladders so promos seem less subjective than other companies I’ve been. As a company it’s perky. It’s product tho is a bit of a snooze fest and gets beat up on Blind bc it isn’t a rocketship.
Great to hear, I’m in the beginning of their process right now. What’s your level and TC (if you don’t mind sharing)?
This is really good to know, thank you for sharing your experience. There's so much engineering experience shared all over blind and levels but a big gap for design.
Any decent big tech company could prob get you around ~360k as an L5 more if you make it to l6
Now Uber has decent pay. L5b (L6 externally) is 500-550k.
Is Uber still all onsite?
Wfh now. Will be Hybrid mode when pandemic is over. 1/2 work from office, 1/2 wfh but people can apply for fully remote.
