I have never done devops so help me out here. How is Datadog better than splunk, OS solutions or cloud hyperscaler native solutions?
Splunk is mostly for logging. Datadog is much more sophisticated with monitoring dashboards and apm. We have used Prometheus and grafana manager which is a great open source alternative
Splunk also has observability platform just like Datadog along with logging platform. https://www.splunk.com/en_us/products/observability.html
There is a strong movement towards OpenTelemetry. Some of the APM providers are more supportive than others.
Splunk is the biggest contributor to OpenTelemetry.
I like data dog and splunk. You can get basically the same benefits from elk stack if you’re willing to put in the elbow grease
What about future competition with Crowdstrike and similar security companies?
I like Datadog
I’m a sales rep for none of these but hear a lot of moving to open source for this space. For someone interested in sales for this space - can anyone confirm or deny where this market is trending towards?
In order to do OS I would expect the company needs to be big. And even then is it better / cheaper than just buying from provider who is specialised?
Why do you say that?
