Im sick of working on Java micro services for a product no one uses. I want to write space code. How do I get a job at NASA JPL? 2 YOE TC ~200k (rapidly dropping because of stocks) Please message me if you have advice or have made a similar move in your career!#swe
Do you care about money even a little? Respect if you don’t but you’ll probably be closer to 100k than 200k there.
Many NASA jobs do not require a clearance. You can prob get a unclass job and work while getting cleared if you really wanted but why. Any pay relating to gov or defense is atrocious. Yeah u work on cool stuff but the skills u gain are non transferable.
Write code for James Webb and make us proud🤞. Honestly I'm also interested in development related to space. I was daydreaming about it sometime ago lol
I would look at their job posts and see what they need. I know people that worked there as c++ developers and they received a clearance during their time there. The company sponsors it. It's not a huge benefit to have one since it adds some restrictions to certain things like travel, but some people like clearances because it could put you in an insta-hire situation.
I have worked for NASA in the past. Just know that often things look better from the outside looking in. Government is often slow, outdated, political, and pays poorly. Be careful.
Yeah but working for NASA is extremely prestigious
I think I just heard someone fart loudly, in response.
If you find a role at spacex careers website you like DM me for referral
Do you have clearance? If not, are you a citizen?
Yeah I’m a citizen. Green card holder
I don’t have clearance. Do I need it?
