Also, I hear a lot of people throwing around the idea of retiring earlier than is typical. Do these companies offer subsidized retiree health plan access or are you cut 100% loose when you leave the work force?
yes when they reach 70 it called SS.
I'm on the retire early path, and healthcare is definitely the toughest part. I don't know of any tech companies that offer retiree benefits.
Move to canada. You wont gave to worrt about health care.
Umm no. Don't live/work and pay taxes your whole life in the US and then just immigrate to Canada to mooch off the free Healthcare
AT&T offered retirees employee group premium rates for all hourly union hires prior to 2009 mid-year contract signing. 2009-2012 it was a 50% subsidy of the actual premium. 2012+ (me) the employee can participate in the group health options, but is responsible for 100% of the premiums, essentially COBRA without the 18 month max. However, the catch is that once you’re Medicare eligible, you can no longer participate AT ALL, not even as secondary coverage.
Thanks Obama
Don’t get sick. It’s the Reaganomics way: businesses won’t accept risk, so you have to. Been that way since Reagan.
On your own.
