Diversity is often cited as Increase in quality of Talent Pool, Higher innovation, Increase revenue/profit. Meta is among the most diverse companies with more than half of the employees are identified as Minorities in Tech. It even has a Chief Diversity Officer. It's a separate topic that if more than half of the employees are minority, are they actually minority. However I don't see anything that makes me believe that Diversity is helping the company, or we wished we could have been more diverse. Do you agree that Diversity helps with increase in innovation, revenue, profit. (Add anecdotes to share).
No hiring should be done with a compromise on talent. As long as the hiring bar isnt raised/lowered based on who is interviewing, diversity should help cause it brings a lot more perspectives, creativity, etc on to the table. Problem is in practice, just to hit diversity goals, the hiring bar variance becomes v high and its all downhill from there.
Microsoft, Google and Adobe are all having the same discussions with their Indian CEOs. They’re leaning toward firing all whites.
The dei argument is fucking bullshit. Did any of us not want to buy an LG OLED tv because that TV was probably made by a bunch of Korean guys. No that tv is amazing. Did they need more diversity? Would 3 lesbians and a black woman make that TV better. I'm guessing it wouldn't make a difference
That would actually make a huge difference! I’d have to by some other TV unless it’s illegal to buy from non-diverse companies.
Forced anything is bad. Diversity is one of the BS of this century.
Discrimination and systemic racism is the B.S. of this century.
Asians are not considered minorities in tech. They consider black, women, Latino, native, etc as minority. Black ppl r like only 5% of all of those companies (meta only 2% ), women around 40%, and Latinos / natives at about 2%. These companies are not diverse, they’re just trying to be
How do you know the percentages? Do you work at Meta?
No it’s public info. Just Google their 2021-2022 diversity report. Every big tech company produces one
Wow do I sense subtle racism and sexism in this question and some of the responses? I would ask the opposite question. How has diversity harmed anyone? I love working in a diverse team. Are there any anecdotes that can prove that diversity is the BS of this century?
For everyone whose been working remote for a few years..... All I see is a name and a square on zoom and GitHub prs. What does race or religion or sex have to do with it. It's been as big a piece of proof that it shouldn't matter ever
People would prefer to be in team with decent gender ratio, like not 100% dudes. Gender is the only thing, rest all arguments are just pure bs
Ads targeting used to be able to exclude people by race. Except for white people because they were "default human". Meaning there wasn't a way to express "white person" to the delivery system but you could other ethnic backgrounds. Same for targeting inclusions. People understanding the outsized impact to certain segments and adjusting the product in a a way to prevent abuse is attributable to an increasingly diverse workforce.
Well that explains the horrendous wheelchair slide in the latest Meta keynote video where they had the stinkiest facial expressions possible with the most obscene outfit combos. Please check it out if you get the chance. They didn’t even bother to give them unique poses. Too busy checking off boxes I guess!

Meritocracy > diversity. If a dog 🐶 can make me the most money, I have no problem hiring the dog.
