There is so much resentment toward fulltime employees from the temp employees who want to get fulltime status. I don't blame them because it's so in your face that they are not real Sephora employees. Is this typical at other companies? A friend told me this is a prevalent hiring practice in retail.
I don't understand why their status as ETW needs to be stated in email name....
It's probably the same in the tech companies
Using contractors are a norm here. It's pretty prevalent across other industries, not just retail. A friend works at Google through a staffing agency for over a year now. She's pretty frustrated since it's a good gig but it isn't permanent.
I think the issue is some companies treat contractors worse than the others. I heard that the most tech companies treat contractors pretty well, so even though they are frustrated by the nature of their status, but at least they think it is a good gig. However, some companies treat contractors pretty bad and keep giving a false hope that maybe one day they will get a full time offer if they bear the shitty condition for now.
It's all about headcounts. A company couldn't make the decision to increase the headcount timely manner so they are putting the burden on contractors.

Peaceful Protest Hasn’t Worked and Has Been Met With Aggression.
I feel really uncomfortable for consultants(temp) in my team being excluded from any sort of company events.
