I have had a great car which I leased 3 years back and next month is the time to return it I would love to buy it but the residual value is too high I have curb rashes on all 4 wheels and 2 nail width scratches on the paint...both 2 inch scratches in length..and you can dig your nail in it but it’s nothing that pops out..you actually have to find it to see it What qualifies as normal wear and tear? Does it make sense to buy the car since I love it so much or should I just spend some money fixing the wheels and paint and get another car ..please note that no other car could be of the same color and trim as mine ..as mine was a custom one leased new from showroom And my car turns heads everywhere it goes I am in a dilemma 😞 Any suggestions?
What car is it?
It’s a Porsche
Turn it in. Doesn’t make sense, to keep a high residual value one. I’m going to turn mine next month too, because of high residual value and had accident.
Why don’t you get a quote on the repairs and the blue book value on your car so then you can then compare. If it’s not too pricey, and if it’s a good car without mechanical issues, then keep the car that you love.
Repairs are max $2k..I called leasing company today and they will give me $1000 allowance for fixing stuff Residual value is $5k over market/blue book
The car will keep depreciating more than the 5k and special colors don’t often sell well in the aftermarket if you want to get rid of it. Seems it’s a lot better to spend the money to fix it and move on to the next car.
Depends what residual value you negotiated versus all the other options you have. It's still just a porsche
Other options are a used Tesla model s (higher spec like 90 or 100d) or Lease a new model 3, a Jaguar, an Infiniti Q60 coupe or Alfa Romeo I don’t want to get run of mill bmws Audi’s or Mercedes..they are dime and dozen
Thanks...Am sure in a few years you will..everyone goes through stages
Can anyone suggest buying a used Tesla Model S vs Leasing a new model 3?
Model 3 is a dime.
Buy M3
Return it. The premise of leasing a car is like renting a house. Have you ever bought your rental apartment at the end? If you want to buy a car, there are plenty to choose from (used or new). Unless you are emotionally attached to it, I suggest you return it and look for another one. Best wishes!
