I'm curious if Director level (data science, management) at Nike means the same thing as at other tech companies, usually manager of managers. Is it equivalent to Senior Manager at FAANG, roughly? Thoughts? TC: 250k + startup options
Could be director as well. If domain is similar like director of operations, supply chain or logistics at Amazon/Apple etc Google, Meta might be a different domain in the Industry so might not translate 1:1
IC or an EPM
Engineering manager, not IC
Likely M1 at Apple
Depends. There have been a lot of people hired at that level recently that I would describe as a high performing ICs with few if any direct reports. Others are managers of managers
L4 at Google
Why not L3
I don’t know. But I’ve seen a lot of Directors from companies like Nike get hired as L4. I’m not trolling
No, big tech companies have an additional layer of management called M2 aka senior managers. These are the second-layer of managers who manage line managers. You director would be the equivalent of this guy. The FAANG director usually manages a team of M2’s, and is also called an “M3”. However, if you’re a director at any non-FAANG company trying to get into FAANG then you should always expect a down-level. Considering this, you would probably slot in as an M1.
Disagree with the first part, Diectors at F500 are managers of senior managers in the same sense u described
There is no senior manager position at Nike. In fact many directors are front line managers. I’ve seen some even working at a story / sprint level. Nike is notorious for titles not aligning with actual duties, so if you are interested in working there it’s something to be aware of.
Assistant to director
At most a Director at Nike manages ICs. They do not manage other managers.
Intern manager
Probably like l6 amazon/google L64 or max 65 at msft
