Why I Find Free Palestine Inspiring
Hey everyone - need a sanity check here. I know the job market is hectic right now, but I feel like I’m getting screwed over where I’m at. Just got promoted to director, got a 15% raise. I’m an hour or so outside of SF, so I know I can’t compare directly - but the Glassdoor isn’t even close (>=200k) YOE: 6 (3 as IC, 3 as manager, 5 DRs) Salary: 120k Bonus: 20% annual Age: 26 No degree - but have the years of experience and accomplishments to back myself up. Have consistently been a top performer, and have been able to learn any new stack I need to. I love this job, I love who I work with/for, but it’s a multi billion dollar company paying me less than market value because I started lower. What do I do? #data #analytics #advice #salary #comp
So low. U should apply for ds role to bump up
Eh, I’m lame. Not super interested in DS. If I ever went back to IC work I’d do DE
Yeah so for example I am a lowley data analyst living in a MCOL area making 140k TC with 5 YOE
Genuinely my advice is to apply to other companies, even just to see how your skills are translating to needs of other Cos. You will start to get a true sense for how your comp is under or over where it could be.
6 Yoe hardly is a senior engineer. With current market stay put.
By title alone, underpaid. But you only have 6 YOE and no degree. Do you have at least a partial degree? Not having a degree gives you less leverage because it's easy to hold against you. Not to say I don't know people who haven't made it without formal education or that it makes a difference in how you work, but in terms of negotiating power for a senior level salary, it can definitely help.
Yes - agree. Perhaps it could be worthwhile to churn out a quick masters from someplace reputable to shore up your reputation and network.
Sure just "churn out a quick masters"
How come Dir at 26 YO ?
He started work early at 19/20 (no degree) - 3 years as IC, 3 as mgr and now promoted to director
I was a senior at 24, founder by 27. Fast learner, and no problem doing what the boss wants. Anyway, these titles at smaller companies don't translate for shit to the corporate world. OP would probably end up as a senior at best at a large company.
This is an unusual case so it's kinda hard to evaluate.
that’s not a FAANG salary but keep in mind that you’re not in a directly comparable director-level role. not saying that to be mean or gate-keeping but when you hear about analytics directors making $750k~1.5M keep in mind that they may have a 40-300 person team, have 15+ YOE, and oversee a multibillion dollar _part_ of an even larger company. at your team size and YOE, that’s roughly equal to a M0/M1 role at a FAANG. which *can* be in the low 200’s. so room to grow, you’re not being paid top-of-the-market but not terrible.
No way any M1 is only making 200k. L4s are making well over 200K in fang. OP is a Director but is making less than entry level in Fang
i believe that’s why the language says “can be in the low 200’s”. TC for IC5/M0 is prolly 170 salary + 15% bonus + 50~75k stocks.
Bloated title, guess its like VP roles in banks. But what ever it is 120k seems less for 6 yrs exp. Glassdoor is not accurate, try to find another source to validate eg., h1b filings data shows the base pay by title which gives you some idea.
This doesn’t seem to make sense if OP already has GC or USC.
My comment is to get idea about salary range as glassdoor is not accurate. Nothing to do with visa. Terrible that you dont understand this.
You’re very under paid but on the other hand you’re director at age 26. Depends on what you value - title or $
Fair pay for 26. Director at most large companies with big paychecks usually are late 30s to mid 40s
$120K in the Bay Area is not fair for 6 YOE at a large company.
