I’m currently a director at Nike working on a very high profile portfolio. I own the portfolio and I am responsible for providing the visibility & governance for it. I came into this job after the previous person was let go for their lack of success. They were a Senior Director and I am overseeing the same work plus more. My peers are all Senior Directors, and I communicate regularly with VPs as well present status reports to C- suite. I have my year end review and I want to use this time to request a promotion to Senior Director for both my success on the portfolio, as well as in recognition of the level of work that I am doing. This also seems like a pay equity situation since all of the people who have the same type of portfolios are all Senior Directors and the person previously in this role was a Senior Director. I would love any advice on how to approach this conversation. Let me know if you have had a similar experience and what you think I should add to my presentation. Thank you! TC: $312K
I think you made the case above. If you have to communicate and “influence” SDs and VPs, that would be part of my argument. The promo to SD is much simpler that the promo to Director - speaking from experience

My ex-boss navigated this and he later told me abt it (not at Apple). He started the conversation with his boss a few months before decision time. He also started networking with 2 powerful seniors a bit more so that they put in a good word when decision committee is asked for feedback. Finally took weeks to write down a self-memo which he memorized that listed not only his achievements but also his soft skills (coaching, cost cutting, leading teams , extra projects he started etc) and he discussed different items with different decision makers over the next few weeks (like Amazon loop day style so that diff people can remember different things, instead of expecting 2-3 people to know everything good abt him). Side note : really wanted to move to Nike (in supply chain / procurement roles) any chance u can provide a referral?
This is super helpful! And yes I can provide a referral. Just DM me!
Being able to display that there’s a genuine need of someone at Senior Director Level to lead that function, you’re already doing that work and at the end, examples of peers with similar impact and responsibilities who are Sr Directors. Secondly, to showcase your work, collect KPIs, if not quotes from peers at least show how you’ve been collecting feedback and proactively improving and progress thereof. I suspect as a senior director, you’ll have to bring initiatives to the table that aren’t already there. Present those ideas/initiatives and tie them back to org success. If you get push back, make sure your manager provides you concrete feedback with specific areas of improvements and timeline. That’s a consolation prize.
Considering that you’re unable to follow etiquette of Blind in posting your TC, I don’t think you are mature enough to be a senior Director yet. Just kidding… ✌️
🔥🔥🔥😂😂😂
How many year have u been at director, if it's been more than 3 years then you should bring it up with ur managers manager which I'm assuming is ur svp
One year in this position but the person who had this role before me was a Senior Director and all of my peers who have the same type of role are Senior Directors.
