Is this really safe guys? Would people even go at this point? https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/disney-world-reopening-florida-covid/index.html
It’s not safe . People will still go , get sick , spread to more people and make it worse for everyone else who is taking precautions and staying safe
It would be at the visitor’s own discretion to go. Disney has made it clear in legal terms
Yup, the wealthy sponsors of mass irresponsibility never have to pay the piper.
Not safe at all. Irresponsible
Yes, it’s crowded with no safe distance
I believe that photo is in disneylands downtown Disney district but still does a good job of representing typical Disney guest behavior. This is a picture from the soft opening/preview of magic kingdom in Florida.
That photo is not from Magic Kingdom. That’s Emporium at Disneyland, which has been closed since March.
Universal Studios and Seaworld have been open for a month with no real issues, outbreaks or superspreader events. There is a way to reopen and be safe as long business enforce the rules(that inept state federal govts refuse to do) and ppl abide. Disney does not want its name and COVID-19 to be in the same sentence and is trying to position itself as a model way to reopen.
I don't know, I think you're right, and Disney is in a bit of no win situation and doing things the best it possibly can, gotta respect them for being the most responsible theme park. That being said- in regards to universal having no issues, cases are definitely spiking in those counties. Not saying universal is a super spreader but without looking at contact tracing data it's hard to say how responsible universal is for the spike. They've had to shut down entire rides, stores and restaurants sporadically for days at a time as they keep having team members test positive and sending home/ quarantining the whole team (most of them at least).
They’re pretty much relying on masks at this point cause there’s tons of photos on twitter of people right on top of each other.
Disney will be the last park to reopen in the Orlando area. It's irresponsible, but frankly that's on the Florida government, not Disney. TBH I'm semi expecting a video of someone that gets denied entry because of a fever and then spits on the park worker in anger.
I would go. Your safer outside than you are indoors.
You are kidding right? I hope you are kidding. Because while yes in general if you are outside with a few people you are far safer than being inside with the same number of people, but when it comes to really large crowds might not really matter. Sure people on the edges of the group might not have much to worry about outside but the risk is definitely higher especially if everything is in close quarters and that’s how amusement parks are built. You can’t really social distance your way through the magical kingdom.
Disney World has many indoor and outdoor spaces. Despite breezes being able to disperse droplets, it’s still a very high risk with crowds. From Disney’s own website: “An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death.”
Money over everything
I no longer respect Disney. I'll no longer have anything to do with them. They don't love America.
Weird flex but ok
lol
This is manslaughter honestly. Opening parks at this time is the equivalent of tobacco companies covering up evidence that smoking causes lung disease. We will look at Disney in a few years the same way we look at Philip Morris today
False equivalency.
How so? The tobacco companies had research that cigarette smoke was radioactive and could cause cancer in the 60s. Outside medical experts also showed this over the years. They continued to seek the product knowing that it could harm people and that they could reduce the harm at a high cost. Disney parks have publicly available evidence that the features of a theme park (indoor spaces, crowds) have a high risk of spreading the disease. From Disney’s own website: “An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death.” They’re continuing to allow people to expose themselves by selling their product, and are forcing furloughed employees to expose themselves or be without a job or unemployment benefits. It’s true we don’t have internal memos like we do from cigarette companies because there’s been no lawsuit yet to discover them, but the public evidence we have is pretty clear: Disney is promoting and continuing to sell its product (theme park access) despite knowing and publicly stating that it can expose people to an “extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death”
