Why is there so little racial diversity in tech companies? I rarely see Latinx or Black folks in Engineering or Leadership roles. I’d appreciate any insights. Thanks.
Companies are doing all they could without driving the quality of candidates down. The problem lies with the education system. It rewards the wealthy.
Last time i checked anybody could leetcode. Doesn't require a masters from a top 5.
If you think anybody can leetcode, you’re the problem. You have a very warped view of what the world is like.
I know some companies desperate to hire African American people even they lower the bar so much. But it just didn’t have enough pool
I just want to say, nice job using Latinx, a word used only in the US. Strictly speaking caucasians are not properly represented in tech roles compared with the college graduate demographics in CS as well. That being said off the top of my head I remember the black demographics being way worse. I can’t remember the Hispanic ones though sadly. I do remember that Asians were over represented though. Disclaimer: I’m kinda inebriated.
I think Caucasians are represented fairly well in the tech space (~60% ish) Asian Americans (including south and east Asians) are WAY overrepresented Latinx and Black engineers are way underrepresented. For example, at FB and Google only 1% of their engineers are black....
I thought compared with graduates of cs caucasians were slightly underrepresented to new hires at top tech companies. Nowhere near compared with black though. Hispanic again I can’t remember though I’d imagine that’s right too. That could’ve been just one of many studies though. Asians are definitely too over represented compared with cs grads though.
A better question would be why are you so uncomfortable with the existing racial makeup of tech companies?
Some people see everything through the lens of race and gender. They are just racists and sexists virtue signaling.
I asked “Why is there so little racial diversity in tech companies?”. Where did I mention I was uncomfortable?
Literally have to go through a gauntlet to get an offer. Call with hr, hiring manager, possibly one more tech screen. Then an onsite with 4-5 more individuals. Most if not all interviewers look nothing like you. Most have never worked with someone like you. Several have never interacted with anyone that looks like you. You figure the rest out. Nobody likes competition.
Ding ding ding!
No one cares about looks in tech. Well, unless you’re a hot chick.
The low production of STEM graduates of URM. URM+females are 1/4 of STEM graduates.
Why are there so few women in construction? Why are there so few men in recruiting? It’s almost like different people gravitate toward different things.
Lack of candidates due to systemic discrimination and lack of opportunity.
They busy on tinder 🤷♂️🤷♂️.
