Diversity in Consulting firms?

How diverse is consulting as a whole? Specifically the big 4 -- are they pretty centered around men? What demographic is most over and underrepresented? My niece is considering a role in consulting, but I was curious about what her experience would be like as an Asian woman -- would she still face hardships due to her gender/race?

Asians face hardships in America? How Sway?

Most likely not a problem if she’s in the bigger cities like SF or NY. I’m asian and at my firm the diversity isn’t great, but there are never any instances of discrimination from what I’ve experienced.

I worked for a Big 4 accounting firm earlier in my career and it was very diverse. At least half the workforce was women and the firm was full of people from differing backgrounds (race, ethnicity, you name it). There may have been more of a skew towards men at the top of the ranks, but as the guard changes and time passes, I doubt that will remain. I’d say the Big 4 is a great place to start a career and anyone, regardless of sex or race, will be on near equal footing with an opportunity to succeed if she applies herself

I think there is a general trend across the entire industry to be more and more diverse. Firms still have high recruiting requirements but are looking for people with very diverse backgrounds, ethnicity, experiences and of course gender. At OW most people are from Ivy League type schools but with different degrees (engineering, law, business, medicine, architecture etc). We also have people from all around the world. And in my intake there were 9 women for 3 men, so the firm is definitely trying to rebalance the gender ratio.
