When I interviewed for Facebook, I was asked a few. They even brought me back for extra time to ask more culture question. Wondering what it's like to interview at Google (I'm getting ready). Is coding and design preparation enough? Any culture or behavior questions I should look out for?
No.
I wonder why no. Is FB and Google that different?
At least for me, I have no interest in knowing why you are leaving your current job, what are your political leanings (yes), what are your strengths and weaknesses, how would you handle certain situations. People have prepared answers for most of these questions. So you never know the real them as well. Well I think our review process and hiring process is made in a manner that would weed out non culturally aligned candidates and I trust the system.
Definitely not. That would require defining their culture, which as you know...
Didn't for me - not a single one. You're still going to be assessed on how you come across though, how you interact with others
No direct behavioral questions in almost a dozen interviews. I'm sure they were assessing this during all the coding and sys design questions, but there where no questions about a conflict with a colleague or how I lead an initiative
they may ask you, do you write hacky code?
I'm as clown-ish as you are
No. It's inferred from the way you answer the algo questions and communicate in general

BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
Yes they are called googleyness and they are highly unscientific
That sounds interesting. Care to explain? Thanks
I'm horrified by the other responses. Clearly they have never been an interviewer and were not aware of how they were being observed. Googleyness is basically (and always vaguely defined) as intellectually curious, irreverent to the status quo, collaborative, and passionate. There's no way to do all of them but being googley means knowing when to be what. It's not about being a west coast hippie or a tech bro. It's your principles of working.
