They are two separate companies. HPi is focused on the printers/desktop business and HPE is focused on the infrastructure/networking business.
We’re friendly and have many agreements but don’t expect much.
We split because HP ALM software (Application Lifecycle Management) sucked so bad. Since HP owned it we had to use it. They decided the best thing was to split the company and create HPE which would own ALM. Thus essentially freeing HPI to use Jira.
Different goals. HP Inc (consumer) does $18bn in printer sales. Desktop/latops do make up more ($28bn) but it's a low margin business. Probably investors who believe in the HPE story are more happy not being so tied to printing, whereas HP Inc can attract those who want to invest in a company that is trying to go industrial with 3d printers.
