I have an offer at YouTube, but hate PM work that revolves around shoving more ads in. YouTube has more ads on videos, on the suggested videos, and now on the homepage. The only “user engagement” feature that was shipped was removing dislikes. And every user hates that feature and is almost certainly a top-down order that used “protecting small creators” as a smokescreen. Can any YouTube pms provide the inside scoop?
There’s folks working on Music, Premium, Shopping, shorts, infrastructure, Kids etc. some of it may be related to alternative monetization but plenty of things not ads related….
Why be a PM at a worsening platform … try other Google areas
There's like a whole VP tree that's for paid/premium features and functionality. I feel like you have a narrow view of YouTube or you've been reached out to by a very small subset of teams. I'm working on strictly paid features.
