I know for software engineer / product manager roles Chase, other banks offer high bonuses especially in high cost of living cities like san francisco because they don’t offer equity. I was offered $35,000 performance bonus. How much of that bonus would even be paid out for someone who exceeds expectations (but maybe not role model)?
Yes, 100% is common.
You’re not getting 150 or 200%
How much would you estimate
Generally you only ever get a promised year end bonus your first year and I have only ever seen it being matched. No more, no less. The new employee already has set expectations and you don’t want to ruin your reputation by not doing what you say you will, but you rarely pay more because no matter how much of a rockstar the new employee is, the impact is going to be limited and the employee already knows what they can expect. This is true of the places I have been but I think the mindset is generally true in all of financial services.
