Meta: Can I go from no name tech company to E5?
Edit : I'm at FAANG fte. Thanks for the concern guys.. I am indian. my manager's indian. Most of my team is diverse. I joined recently along with 3 other indian teammates. We were never welcomed. No emails welcoming us. No one reached out to us to welcome or get to know us. I personally sent emails to other ppl to introduce myself. Recently few other local folks joined - non indians. And my manager sent 20 msgs in the team chat to welcome that. There is an ongoing annoying email threading started by my manager to welcome n introduce non indian teammates. In the sprint calls,my mgr keeps welcoming them daily despite it being almost 2 weeks since they joined Should I be sad that my manager is indian?? Or is this a typical problem of being a 3rd world software engineer in the first world? Indians in unites states, do you reckon!?
In our team none of my Indian friends were treated this way, but in WITCH I don’t really find this surprising
I can attest for Intel- extended WITCH
Indians are like that. Not only manager, if your senior in the team is Indian then he/she would behave same unless you are from either community/caste or region/language. I saw that in my previous and current company. Not only that, dev look down support teams thinking dev > support (typical Indian mentality).
California sues Cisco for alleged discrimination against employee because of caste https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/01/tech/cisco-lawsuit-caste-discrimination/index.html
I feel really bad for what’s happening for you
Yes. I experience the same: desi lead or manager treats desi employees with a boss and subordinate culture. However, the attitude is completely different to other races.
That's cause others wont take any shit from desi managers.
In my previous company, I had a Christian Indian colleague. We reported to an American manager. One day this manager left and a hindu manager transferred from another team. This Christian colleague got PIP the next day (PIP was very rare at that company)
Did they ever give any reason or did you know what led to it?
Happens even out of WITCH. Not my direct manager but someone I was dotted line reporting too.
What did they do? Any examples?
This happened on my team. Indian Manager. When I joined, he just introduced me to everyone via email and to my team in-person. When a Non-indian employee joined, he asked me to get a welcome gift and plan a lunch. As days passed, the discrimination increased by the day. An Indian discriminating against indian.
Welcome gift? Never seen anyone give that to new team members regardless of race.
He said “it can be as small as getting a desk plant or flowers. But do get something to make the (new hire) feel welcomed, we can reimburse it on the team costs.”
That’s what you get for working at Cognizant. LC and move away from WITCH.
