Do interviewers at Meta/Google know what level candidate is interviewing for?

Just finished onsite rounds for Meta and Google L5. Some of the interviewers for the coding rounds seemed less experienced than me. System design had experienced interviewers. Just wondering if they can send an L4 to interview an L5, and if the interviewers know what's the candidate level? For coding rounds there's not going to be much difference between an L3 and an L5 for LC style questions.. 250k

Yes interviewers do know the level for which candidate is being interviewed for. Also as general guideline, I think the interviewer is atleast at the level of interviewee. Exception might be cultural fit interviews.

+1 interviewer is at least the same level as candidate, for all rounds including culture fit

I remember hearing that for coding rounds, they don’t; for behavioural and sys design, they do and those are usually the rounds that down level (or in rare cases up level) candidates.

At meta the coding bar is the same for all levels. System design and behavioral determines your level. Coding is just pass or fail.

Several years ago, I nailed all the coding rounds. At the system design round, the chinese guys asked me, "You applying for L6" with some level of judgment right out of the bat. That round was messed up. I do look very young than my age. The coding round is a general loop for everyone. It can be any interviewers. These days, they made SD and beh round more formal, and this decides the level.
