Sometimes it feels like certain hires who happen to belong to a diversity group are paid more or have more leeway for error. Or maybe it's just my team. Not in any way comparing skill levels.
Yes.
i think so..i have seen managers hire crazy folks just to prove that they are hiring for diversity..
This 👆🏼
I noticed that too. We got three new employees as sde and they don’t even know what is a compiler. And managers expect you to do their job too. Why did you hire them to begin with?
Exactly. I think the RSUs offered is way higher than the rest to keep them around.
It's been a Thing for a while, and yes, managers have to fill the quota for diversity. Worked ok for my team, but I've seen other teams suffer.
Diversity points start counting for hire principal and above and each VP gets rewards for that, not the manager.
Correct
VP will direct Mangers to do so.
Why would a hiring manager hire someone subpar onto their team? So you can pick up after them for years for some short term bs brownie point? Do u even work at Microsoft?
Leadership and recruiters get bonuses based off diversity: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2016/11/18/13681738/microsoft-diversity-goals-executive-bonuses-women-in-tech https://www.theverge.com/2016/11/18/13681738/microsoft-diversity-goals-executive-bonuses-women-in-tech It is hard to get into MSFT right now externally if you are Asian or Indian because of this, since there are so many already in the company. Do you even know anything about your own company lol
You seem to be one of the few who disagrees. Diverse opinions are encouraged 😊
All of this fear about women and racial minority employees is blown out of proportion on Blind. The number of women at MS was actually decreasing until LinkedIn hires pushed the gender split from 25.5% women to 26.6% women. African American/Black employees went from 3.8% to 4% last year. Virtually nothing has changed in the last 10 years. Your bonuses aren’t being stolen by incompetent “diversity hires”. There is literally 1 woman now in the wing I work in and if her getting hired meant my VP got a small bonus then good for him, but he’s doing a sucky job of creating a diverse workplace if that’s his goal.
Since when is anyone afraid? It's a simple statement, managers are paid extra money if they hire certain kinds of people. The question is not fear, the question is whether that is fair or ethical.
Except it’s not a simple statement if you consider the history of bigotry in the US that informed these policies. These types of questions imply fear of not being able to preserve the status quo. Fear of change and diversity. Personally, I’m afraid that continuing questions like this make us all look like sexist racists who can’t be effective in a diverse team or global workforce. If I can go an entire day without seeing a woman in my team room and a week without seeing a single Black or Hispanic dev, PM, or designer in my building then I think we should be paying execs to look outside of their social circles and paying minorities to put up with this culture. Give them a $1000 bonus for every-time someone calls them a “diversity hire” because it’s demoralizing and insulting. How long would you stay if it was you they were talking about?
Some managers make a huge push to their manager directs to make diversity hires. It usually comes from some wannabe sjw middle manager.
It is very difficult to disagree with your statement, I would love to... but cannot.
It doesn't happen. Why do you continuously lie through the teeth?
Dont accuse me of lying, you're not following the 10 inclusive behaviors...
