I'm a new Amazon SDE-I, fresh out of college, onboarded virtually and I am absolutely hating wfh. The learning is slow and it absolutely sucks staying at home, not being able to interact with people. I don't want to be staying at my parents house forever. Also, it kinds of hinders your networking and the opportunitues to meet people and share ideas for potential startups. #amazon #facebook #google #microsoft #remotework #wfh
Keep staying at your parents house and save money. Home food too
I miss home food
Make a poll. And yes, I think only married, settled, and people 2-3 years into their career want WFH. I fuckjng hate it. It is affectin my career development and social skills and as a new grad.
Why
ummm... I can't meet my co workers, or my mentor to be mentored peoperly, onboarding isnt as effective, don't feel motivated as much. First proper job of my life and I m stuck at home instead of developing myself as a professional. Why do you like WFH?
Do they cook for you too
Mom always cook. Right? Why will anyone want to leave that?i wouldn’t for a million dollars
Not a boomer here, early 30s, and kinda love WFH. I figured this would be a year or two at a minimum early on seeing how the administration was handling Covid and invested early in decking out multiple comfortable workspaces as well as getting a good camera, lights, audio and monitor. As it stands, even though I’m highly social, I’m much more productive now that I don’t have to trek back and forth to the office. And since I work hard to maintain some real difference between work and life using my schedule, it’s even made my home life better. That said, I know there are lots of people that need a lot of people around them for support to do their best work (that’s true even for some folks that report to me) so I assume I’m an outlier. I feel bad for you folks who are coming into this as your first job, you’re really not grounded enough in your path to manage this well.
Do you C# at work ?
Haha, no! but I do hack around with it on a lot of home brew HAM radio projects.
OP, how old are you?
Fresh college grad he said so probably 20-25
Boomer here. No wfh is terrible and I hope it ends asap.
No one wants permanent WFH. Everybody wants a mix of WFH and office life. Good for us, this is the way things are headed, at least in the Valley.
Speak for yourself, I'd love permanent wfh
Good for you. I think you're an exception though. The overwhelming majority of the folks I've talked with are in favor of a mix though. Would like to see a real survey.
Learn how to earn trust and develop yourself without somebody holding your hand in the office. Also, some say that introverts can show their skills better now while WFH. And I understand this, it's harder to BS for your promotion without any real impact.
