Many of my friends at non-FAANG companies are at staff roles with 8-10 YOE. Given how we are hiring, most are interviewing & want to get in as E6 because they are currently staff at their companies. A couple of them got downleveled, got salty about the company, and even rejected the offer despite TC being 1.5X their current. Given this, I get a sense that most seem to underestimate E6 role at meta. They have no idea it'sa bloodbath for an external candidate coming directly as E6. Is it just me who thinks that way? TC: 600K
This is true across meta, amzn, Msft and goog. Vp, director, sr director are meaningless titles in most places to make people feel good. It’s in exchange for lower comp. Anyone whose ego is tied to a title is not fit to work in a top tier company though, in my not so humble opinion.
I thought title inflation is only in msft
Not trying to be a dick but just genuinely curious as a new grad trying to work my way up - what makes someone “E6 quality?” Or wait traits make someone this good of an engineer? What are the expectations for this role?
Do you think every level at Meta is +1 difficulty of most other organizations? Or do you believe that there is something specific about the E6?
I feel E3-E5 is manageable if you work hard. E6 is a bit cut throat since you got to be really really good and above all great at selling, politics and all bs. At meta it's not top down which is what makes it tricky at E6 levels
Sucks if that's the case. Interviewed as e5. Hoping to get an offer. Felt interviews got easy.
Joining Meta soon at E4 in a hardware infra role. What should I expect and any rational advice for growth? And I kean actual growth and learning
Company is great if you can keep up with hard work and stress
Maybe you are underestimating external candidates? Just because you feel it is a bloodbath, doesn’t mean everyone feels same.
I'm not underestimating them, but I felt they haven't done any research. Also, it's not about talent alone that matters at E6 but the culture.
External candidates don't know what they're getting into at all. It's a bloodbath at E6. Grind, politics, and scope wars. The successful ones are the ones who have built up years of donation knowledge on a specific team
Maybe your circle is bad? If they are making only 66% of E5 pay at staff level, they are probably at a tier 4 company.
Are you E6?
You can call me a junior engineer if you pay 500K+ TC for all I care.
For 500k TC you can call me piece of shit
6 is not easy Source: being 6
What's most difficult, and how many hours you doing a week?
My avg hours: 35 / wk but the problem is that you have mental workload, it's not the physical hours load... Sometimes it makes you not able to enjoy vacations cz when you are back, everything is on fire.
