What’s the sprint planning cadence and release frequency in sprint teams at Google? #google Do they have sprints every 2 weeks and release every 4 weeks? What is the timeframe of OKR planning/goals? Do Product Managers lead sprint grooming, estimation, retros and demos? Which of these roles are driven by the PM vs EM? TC: $230k
This is a bit of a generalization but in my experience, run away from companies that make their PMs “lead spring grooming, estimations…”
Prioritization and grooming is often driven by PMs. Because requirements and priorities need to be made clear. And PM knows the impact side of things. Estimation could be led by engineering.
Yes, not how things work in real life. From side observations, Google has enough common sense not to engage in such nonsense.
This varies hugely by team. But most teams I've seen at Google don't run a proper agile process. And therefore PMs don't end up doing the thing you've mentioned. More about quarterly/ annual goal setting, strategy, product planning (prd etc), communication, execution blocking and tackling like debugging issues etc
That sounds like an IBM or Oracle. Given Google is the god of all modern day tech, I was hoping they would be flag bearers of agile. Why is it not like that?
Because agile isn't some amazing standard that's ever been fully implemented anywhere. It's a lot of ivory tower ideals. Sure, there's a lot of good, but there's also some dumb
