Is it worth to stay with a company in the long-term if you are getting promoted fast? Does the internal level have any impact on your market value?
What do you think about why Brian Krzanich can still get the top job after kicked out of Intel?
Top job peddling car dealership software LOL
Still not bad. Looks like Intel’s trash some one else’s treasure. Lol
Sloppy seconds 😆
The problem is Intel promotes people based on their ability to bullshit in meetings. I have told interviewees from Intel that I don't care at all about the visibility they worked so hard for.
Actually we barely have any meetings in my team. The ones we have are right to the point, nobody bullshits. I have a small and efficient team.
Yes, it does. Your YOE and current level are both important.
It depends on the company you left and the company you’re going to. Some have well-defined level mappings (ie FB, AM, G, MS), and ignore level for anyone else. That being said, it never hurts, but don’t get tricked into how some companies trade titles for compensation — if you know three people who do basically the same job and all three have different titles, and at least one of them with more than four words in the title, then titles at that company are meaningless and unless they’re throwing way more money at you each time you’re “promoted”, then you’re probably just being duped.
That's insightful. We don't really have official titles until the principal engineer level. Promotion usually comes with a good increase in the compensation but still not on par with FNG level.
In my opinion, promotions matter if they translate to larger responsibilities and scope. A larger responsibility will help you grow as a professional or manager and will open up doors at other companies down the road. Pay no attention to the haters... if you take every opportunity to grow, you’ll land on your feet.
The longer you stay at Intel the lower your outside market value.
