I’m a UX designer with about 4 y.o.e and was offered a job as a Senior Product Designer at a very small startup. However, I’m also in the interview pipeline for three much more well-known companies (e.g Amazon, Starbucks) all for plain “UX Designer” roles. What is going to be better for my career growth in terms of title/company? Do recruiters even care about titles or do the mostly pay attention to the notoriety of the company and experience? I want to make sure it’s easy for me to be recruited/find a job in a year or two when I’m ready to move on. As for compensation, the offer the startup has made seems pretty competitive and compensation isn’t the most important thing to me at the moment. #design #uxdesigner #career #productdesign
Yes but it's relative to the company. For a hiring manager worth their salt, they know that Senior at a little startup is equivalent to mid-level at a larger more reputable company.
Got it, thanks! I guess I won’t use title as a factor in my decision then.
Titles do not matter much at start ups and agencies. Everyone knows they are bullshit inflated vanity titles there.
Disagree, it depends on the team, the role and responsibility itself rather than on the company. Titles in startup also matters, not give away so easily.
I mean sure, there are exceptions. But I'm a general sense if you have a couple years exp and a fancy title at a startup I know you actually can't perform at that level in a big corp.
Being a Senior Product Designer at a startup doesn’t mean you’re a Senior Product Designer at a large company.
Agreed, vice versa is also true
Right, I get that a Senior Product Designer and UX designer can have essentially the same responsibilities in reality, but are you saying recruiters or hiring managers wouldn’t care about the title at all when deciding to reach out?
