Do you boycott businesses ?

A lot of business indulge in unethical activities. Do you boycott buying their products ? Or working for that company ? For example I never fly United Airlines. I personally have categorized business in following categories: 1. Red: I never deal with them. 2. Grey: Only if no other option is available. 3. Yellow: Can use if other options are difficult to find. 4. Green: usually the businesses I never had any problem with. Most would fall In this category.

Yes. I actively boycot godaddy and facebook. I also heavily encourage friends and strangers to never work for them.

What's wrong with GoDaddy ?

If you search for a domain name and do not buy it within a couple of minutes they will purchase it and then attempt to resell it to you as a “premium domain”. This elevates the price from under $20 to a couple thousand instantly. There are other reasons but this is the most egregious.

Only wealthy people do this. I only recently started doing this because I have options. Realistically, business boycotts aren’t effective unless a very large group of people all agree to boycott at once. Otherwise, this is a moot act of defiance as an individual, with little or no returns—especially if you’re poor. In fact, it might actually end up being harmful to you because you don’t or barely have consumption options as it stands.

Yes boycotts are only effective if it's done by large swaths of customers but I disagree it's only for wealthy people. Obviously it's more difficult for poor people, but looking at history people have had to make sacrifices to change history. That's fine to have the opinion that we should be able to make change without sacrifice (I'd love that) but it doesn't seem realistic. Even protesting for example takes time, time you are not working which again hurts poor people the most.

I definitely make decisions on where to spend my money based on my own set of values and what I know about companies. I also never fly United if there is any other option I’ll take the other option.

Lol no. I only do this if it makes sense for me not for any values. If someone has a bad service or product I don't use them.

Life is too short to run from every bad corporation. With that said, the free market will decide.

Oracle Xmx32G Oct 21, 2018

The free market can't decide until there is information asymmetry. By the time everyone has information it's too late

Oath Atinlay Oct 21, 2018

That not what asymmetry means.
