I think MS is one perfect example for low pay but bright future. There are many companies pay more while in trouble like OCI. I am sure Azure pay less while is more promising than OCI while I am welcoming different opinion. So what will you choose? TC: 170k yoe: 2
In this current market, it’s so easy to switch jobs. Applying the greedy algorithm for short term maximization might work well for global optimization since it’s so easy to get a new job in case you’re fired / company goes under - as long as you’re competent
All these "MSFT pays so poorly" posts are getting annoying. If you're good enough to get Google or FB offers, do so. If not, you have no ground to stand on.
Companies don’t care for you... just focus on yourself
Money. If my company was doing well but I wasn’t being paid well, I’d leave.
But I’d keep the stock!
Short version - company matters. I think you'll get different answers based on where people are their your career. Early on I was obsessed with only pay. Now, all the jobs pay more than enough to live on. The difference between 300k and 400k is just how much I save; doesn't change my life that much. A good work environment, respect, pride in my work, and long term growth has a greater impact on my quality of life.
I really enjoy Salesforces mission
🤣
Salesforce - empowering salesman and marketers to annoy you more frequently and through as many channels as possible
Care about company's future because of all the vested stocks
If the company isn’t doing well, those RSUs probably won’t be worth much
I care about doing well by my employer. I'm not in control of the future of any company I've worked for, so I think caring about it would be unhealthy.
I care about all the companies future I have invested in.
So essentially the money
You work for the company. That’s the heaviest investment—— yourself.
