Do you negotiate salary over email or phone?
Also, after you have countered once and you're not satisfied with their increase, do you counter again stating that you're unsatisfied with the pay? Or do you simply decline the offer?

Don't forget there could be other things that they will accept to sweeten the pot. More vacation, signing bonus, stocks, more remote time. Some things might be more palatable than more salary increases

I meet them for coffee, write down my number on a napkin, slowly pass it over without a word.
Would try countering again unless they were really clear that it was their best and final offer
