I did a silly mistake of selecting a default - Vanguard Target Retirement 2060 Trust and it gave very less returns
Most people have 10-20 funds to choose from in a 401k. If you want you can do a market fund (S&P) instead of target retirement. More volatility but more gains.
Please do not do anything that would resemble picking stocks or sectors, or timing the market.
why? can do that in a bull market instead of relying on S&P right?
I sure do!! Both covered calls and cash secured puts. At the same time, if you lack rationality, I highly recommend against it. In a time horizon of decades, SPY will win. If you ever feel useless, look at Cathie Wood 😂 Even Michael Burry missed the greatest bull train of all time after 2008. But he’s still (I suppose) ahead of his peer as he didn’t lose money. Thus, you can do CSP or CC but your motivation to beat market is wrong. Do it for fun though. (Yeah at apple you can open a brokerage with Schwab. Another strategy would be to open self directed brokerage account like Peter Thiel but I don’t know a lot about it as I make lot more now)
How are you trading in your 401k are you talking about ira?
You can but you need directed brokerage account
Google offer TD Ameritrade brokerage to trade using 401k money.
