You call a $40 ride expensive? Try a trip to the airport; with tolls, etc.
For 15 minutes yes.
$160/hour is insane. I would NOT tip.
You could bang a hoor for that price.
But even after an hour of moving forward and backward, you will remain at the same place while the can takes you from point A to point B
Keep in mind the person probably drove 15 minutes to/from you so it's more like $40 for 30 minutes plus vehicle wear and tear. Price is still stupid
What are you talking about? Pickup times are usually 1-3 minutes.
In my area, Uber drivers usually complete trip while I’m waiting for them and then accept the next trip while I’m still in the car.
It’s not customer responsibility to tip for the rides. If they are underpaid then companies need to pay and reduce their profit margin. Have taken 5000+ trips. Never paid a dime and never will. Tipping culture is toxic. Holding customers hostage for paying when they are already paying for service is utmost stupidity. Tips in rideshare is asked at the end of the trip so no one is expecting and watching you so avoid getting into guilt trips which restaurant staff does by staring at your face to expect a tip.
This is not how society works. Maybe it's how you want it to work, or objectively how it should work, but it's not how it works. If you don't want to tip, just don't purchase services that require tipping. Easy.
I guess you never tipped taxis either? This is such a toxic mentality. You’re supposed to tip for service, it is your responsibility and also customary
You're fucking over the underpaid worker driving you. Do you think it's the driver spiking the price? Or that they keep the extra money? Maybe they get some small portion of it, but most goes to Uber/Lyft. Refusing to tip is asshole behavior. You don't need to tip the same %, but you should tip what you normally would have. For the amount people talk about TC on this site, some of y'all are real cheapskates.
My manager didn’t tip me for my work just because I am underpaid nor did my colleagues Next time, I will print out all my work and serve those printouts in a plate and charge 20% tip as an default option.
People on blind really are entitled assholes. Drivers get paid next to nothing and should be tipped
Do you not understand the drivers don’t get anywhere near that much money? Without tips they barely make minimum wage, it all goes to Uber
Is not a matter of “understanding”, is a matter of knowing. Drivers take 75% of the fare, which I understand is before taxes and fees. And in Seattle drivers make an AVG of 25/35 per hour at current rates. Sure, it’s less than many other workers, the point is that at the end, like it or not, taking a ride is engaging in a business transaction, not in charity, and is a business transaction where customers are paying 40 dollars for a 15 minutes service. Maybe the option is to go back to cabs in protest to Uber, but then Uber drivers lose business and make even less.
I personally would love a cab resurgence because I always preferred them, but I always tipped cabs too. I also doubt Uber drivers make $25 an hour consistently because of slow periods/weather etc
Isn't the whole thing with those that you don't tip?
When it's on the company dime, I tip well. On my own, only if it's a good ride.
I do regardless. The extra 5$ means almost nothing to me and probably quite a bit more to them
