Usually they recover fine but this time feels different, they are actually bleeding users and revenues declining, that's never happened... If they headed in that direction even remotely, in the past they would just acquire new platforms to keep growing (eg. Insta, WhatsApp etc) but now the gov't won't let them. I don't like Meta but this not good for any of us in Tech because Meta pays really well so losing this competition could hurt us all and give more power to our employers. Do you think Meta is in real trouble?
Tiktok will buy Meta
âBleeding usersâ atleast get your facts right.
Depends if their long-term bets on AR/VR and Metaverse. Bull case, Meta is a robust company that can weather some really heavy shit, their profit margins are good, cash and debt is good, solid moat, and the fact that FB and IG is never going anywhere, regardless of âdecliningâ users. Bear case is the company does not adapt fast enough with Appleâs privacy changes and Metaverse is unprofitable for years to come. Itâs still a giant though and will be for quite some time.
Facebook is slowly dying and even if they crazily succeed in VR/AR space, # of users there will be orders of magnitude less than for Facebook. So yes, Meta is in trouble.
They will print money in the metaverse
Theyâre still insanely profitable. wtf is up with this poll
Very profitable but being curb stomped by Timothy Apple and TikTok with declining users reported in Feb 2022 earnings call.
Yeah, MySpace is still around too.
Market has mispriced META. Also Zuck is still young and is a long term visionary.
Meta has one of the cleanest balance sheets there is, all debt could be instantly paid back. Also very healthy cashflow in relation to market cap. So even if the metaverse does not work out it will have just been an expensive experiment. But IMHO you are crazy if you don't think they'll make tons of cash with it - e.g. look at Ray Ban Stories and the latest advance of brain activity to text
Apple can steal all of Meta's thunder in AR/VR literally overnight. For all the billions Meta has invested in the metaverse, the graphics look like Nintendo 64. Their user traction for Horizon Worlds is not anywhere close to other metaverses like Fortnite and Roblox. And Meta can't even make any acquisitions that won't be aggressively struck down by Lina Khan at the FTC.
Nah, Apple can bag a couple of hard-core fans but Oculus has a standing in the market. As for graphics: Did you actually ever give it a try? Looks shotty in 2D because it's optimized for the actual thing
We want Meta to do well I donât understand all this Meta hate. They are the ones that drive our salaries up
Sort of. Meta historically has driven salaries up but if Twitter (or whatever social media company you want to use as an example) captured Meta's market share and ad spend then Twitter would just take Meta's place in propping up high salaries.
Well if Tiktok continues beating Meta then they'll just replace them as the one driving salaries up They're already paying more than Meta with a very high cash portion of TC

Horrible Netflix ML interview experience
Yes Meta is in trouble but they're also desperate for talent so they'll still establish the standard for decent comp in the industry, casting an even wider and wider net. I don't see their impact on tech industry comp going away any time soon.
