Every other post on Blind is about FAANG interview, offers, referrals etc. Every other post on Linkedin is how I got into FAANG and self cringe Every other YT channel & blog/site/app is about how to get into FAANG What's so special about FAANG, I mean Amazon has trash ratings here on Blind and overall dur to their culture? There are other companies like Snap, Uber, Airbnb etc. which pay more but don't get included in FAANG discussion, why?

PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
Faang is liked for many reasons but the most common is the brand. Outside the bay area, if you have Faang on your resume you are most likely set for life. It's equated with going to ivy leagues....being that good.
Even 🍌?
So is being at Nike 🤷♂️
Prestige
was a good movie
In my experience and looking at classmates who I graduated with a few years ago, it seems we were way more interested about fang after graduation but today is the contrary, I have very few acquaintances there / wanting to get there anymore. I don’t know if it’s a changing trend, or just the fact that fang companies are really active on campus recruiting hence being really attractive to new grads.
Many people simply give up easily. For example, many people will never interview with Google after a single fail, even though Google has no lifetime limits, and I've been trying to get into Google every couple of years since like a dozen years ago. Probably had 5 or so on-site loops so far. I don't even remember how many, have to look into a spreadsheet. Their recruiters still call me back and want to re-interview me again, I never even have to apply myself.
If you didn't have Amazon on your resume... you would have made it by now to Google 😆
It's a very very weird bar. Every great eng I know has never worried about fang and either works at one of them (as their comp or WLB etc is good). Or work at a mid series startup/hedge fund and know they could just swap back to faang if they wanted to. The only people I know who obsess about Faang are the ones who struggle struggle get in and consequently aren't very good.
Great engineers don't need nearly as much luck and preparation. They are more ready. Those who struggle get in likely try multiple times and have to keep grindinf...
That is not true. I get Google in my first try. How do you know your colleagues could just swap into faang if they wanted? Experienced people just had more time to code and collect good code samples. They learnt over years and it doesn't mean they were good in their first years of their career
Only because they couldn’t get into Albertsons
the new FAANG is Financial Services Company Albertsons AutoZone New General Motors
I wanna work at Financial Services Company but I can’t find their website.
The obsessions isn’t new. Blind is new. And the companies in the hot list change over time. Even Uber was considered to be top dog a few years ago.
Ok boomer
This isn’t new either
I forgot to mention that in most context faang is an Amazonian that wants to associate with FB and G
This. It started with “fang”. Some cringe inserted another “a”.
bruh… you couldn’t be further from the truth lmfao. FANG was originally coined by Jim Cramer to refer to: Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Google The other “A” was added later for Apple employees who felt left out If they say FANG -> Amazon employee trying to fit into F G and N If they say FAANG -> Apple employee trying to fit into F A N G
Many Blind users are obsessed with FAANG because a lot of us are aspirational TC chasers. There is a whole world of engineering professionals outside of FAANG that have no interest being dragged into the dystopian nightmare of working at a 50,000+ person megacorporation that, for instance, monetizes advertising via weaponized big data and neurologically addictive 'features'
yeah, people forget that most people get rejected from FAANG. those are the same people you’re talking about
People on Whatsapp: “Bro why are you joining Facebook? Does 500k TC justify stealing people’s info?”
Who fang?
what fang?
how fang?
