How big are the balls of Google to lay off thousands and then do 70 BILLION in stock buyback?
The title says it all. Does working at Citadel, Jane Street, DE Shaw, etc. in comparison to DRW, Point72, etc. add a meaningful value (please elaborate below)? By meaningful I mean if the experience and learning would be significantly different? Forget about the salary for the comparison. yoe < 1 tc 175 #finance #citadel #janestreet #drw EDIT: I'm mostly interested from quant perspective (not SWE).
What matters is how close are you to the money. Tier 2 quant trader > tier one swe
This answer doesn’t even make sense in relation to the question.
Yes it does. What you do at the company is the most important. Also, places like citadel hide most of their strategy from employees. So you won’t learn anything. Better off at tier 2 that will actually let you participate and understand the risk taking
Does working at Google, Meta, etc in comparison to Adobe, Intel, Spotify, etc add a meaningful value? (Serious question: I think the answers are probably pretty similar)
yea, they probably are. I'm mostly interested to know about research-based quant roles in these firms (updated the question). Do you think there's a difference between Jane street and second-tier shops?
We probably have a nicer cafeteria than them.
I don't really consider drw or point72 quant shops. I think most tier-2 quant jobs are just smaller. I can't think of any that are just as big the ones you list. So, if your question is really is working at a large quant shop meaningfully different than working at a small one, then obviously yes.
Thanks for the input CitSec. Are you a QR? What is your day to day like? Thanks!
Sorry if it wasn't clear. Let me put it this way! Citadel Securities is great, let's say it's tier 1. Now, consider a company functionally almost similar to Citadel Securities that is not as well-known and as successful, right? Let's say that company is tier 2. Now, what is the meaningful difference between working at Citadel Securities and company X? I'm looking for something like: - at Citadel Securities, you work with brilliant people (smarter than the people in tier 2 company maybe) and the company culture is that everyone shares ideas, etc. and it's awesome. That to me is a meaningful difference. - or at Citadel Securities, you get exposed to top-notch portfolio management style that could help you start your own company some time down the road. That too is a meaningful difference. I'm trying to figure out, how a company like Citadel Security would help me intellectually relative to a tier 2 company? Not Citadel brand if I want to get another job and not comp. Does that make sense?
In what world is DRW 2nd tier?
At least in the TC world! You think it's tier 1 or tier 3? lol
Not sure if p72 is 2nd tier
Consider any company you put in second-tier bucket!
should be 3rd
