As consultants/bankers who either travel or work all the time, do you think paying 200-300/month for a luxury gym is worth it? #consulting #banking #mckinsey #JPM #bain #investmentbanking
Never worth it unless you’re at the point that you can’t burn your money fast enough
Yes softer the cushion on your bench the more gains you get. I proved it with SCIENCE
It depends what you want from that gym. I personally like to have some classes and to enjoy a sauna from time to time. So I do pay the extra money to get a good gym. I also hate it when my gym is crowded.
Yes
I mean lifetime is 110 a month and you can use any of the gyms. The one next to my house has a massive gym, sauna two pools, a rock wall and basketball court. Not sure what else you would want.
My only other option is an over crowded LA Fitness in LA where nobody puts weights back and rarely do people let you work in/share equipment while they do 10 sets with 15 min breaks. That equinox membership is looking pretty valuable right now. But it’s still a lot of money for an analyst. I’m planning to treat myself after a promotion a promotion or two.
Been doing crossfit for about last 6 months. About $200 a month. Incredible results.
As with many things, the answer is “compared to what?” If your other option is not going to the gym at all because this luxury gym is all that is nearby (cough cough in my case), or its the most convenient and will get you in the gym 5x / week instead of 2x, then it’s worth ponying up the dough. However, if you are comparing it to a mid range premium gym that is just as convenient, are the extra expensive soaps and stuff worth it? The answer surprisingly also could depend. If you take classes that Equinox offers, if you use the steam room and sauna, or they are the only gym nearby with a proper squat rack and deadlift platform, it still might be worth it. Finally is obviously the financial question. $300 / month is $3,600 a year or $43,200 after 10 years. Damn! However, compared to what? 10 years later you could have an excellent physique or if the alternative is no gym, you could be 50 lbs overweight after getting crushed in client service for a decade. Your choice!
