Why do people complain so much about AI, offshoring, immigrants? Yes 30 years is a long time just wanting to gage peoples sentiment.
No not in tech, I don't expect Programmer as a job to still exist in 30yrs that's due to exponential progress in LLMs every year GPT-4 was exponentially better than GPT-3 > GPT-2 I think people in tech can't easily adapt to other fields, There are people with Liberal Arts degrees who went to a bootcamp and now work at FAANG. I don't think the opposite is possible, It's almost impossible for tech people to get into Law, Medicine without getting a degree.
Most people will be chill after first few millions, some will be chill after 10m, very few will still work extremely hard.
How much luck is involved in making the first few millions and is it only possible in the US for tech?
If you divide how many people getting into Harvard each year by total number of 12th graders, you would conclude that getting into Harvard is extremely difficult and can only be done by luck. But some high school sends more than one students to Harvard every year, your odd change dramatically if you can get into such high school and score well in every class. That’s why it might be luck for some people, it is simply expected for someone else. You are the chosen one is you are close to other chosen ones.
No but mainly because the Bay Area is very depressing and I can't imagine living here forever.
Wow. Poll results are very bad. Why get married and have kids if you’re so negative about your future financial situation?
I'm making and saving as much money as I can, If there are no tech jobs I will buy a big plot of land with a lake, river, arable land and install solar panels, live off grid. I will still get married and have lots of kids.
Because the alternative is to be single and depressed, always wanting more money?
