This puts a bad taste in my mouth. I'll either tip everyone or nobody. I'm not expecting them to put up a performance for me to throw them some change
When Uber first launched I had high hopes this was the movement that was gonna cure the pathologic relationship Americans have with tipping, too bad they succumbed to the preassure:/
If we want tipping to end, we need to stop predatory employment practices and make sure workers all have a right to a living wage.
Yes, the base fee Uber drivers (and other service staff for that matter) are getting per ride should increase. It seems like you're envisioning this happening by a government decree. But stopping tipping would also necessarily lead to it, given the market forces (fewer drivers willing to work for the low fee if they expect the tips to be low). In the case of Uber it's literally built into the app (surge pricing), but it would happen in other industries too (just slower).
