Does Apple or Microsoft pay more for new grads?

Title. Have internship offers from both and factoring return offers into my decision. Assume everything is equal (skills, previous internships, etc).

Microsoft's position would be in SV, not Redmond.

The initial offers will be similar. But apple has better refreshers, meaning year 2 and onwards, apple will win out.

People tend to only look at initial offers and don't consider refreshers for some reason so just a reminder.

Isn’t that more so the case at Google? Which is why it is harder to get promoted at G

No, Google highest rating (S) is much easier than FB highest rating (RE). Promo is completely different. At G, you can get promo with a few above average ratings (EE/SEE) in a row as long as you show you can/are performing at the next level. At FB, i believe (could be wrong) it is more like you have 18/36 months to do promo worthy work and during that period you will either get promo or pip.

Microsoft has free food in SV.
    Free food > refreshers

Yes, it's unfortunate. At least you're aware and making your decisions based on it.

For a new grad/low level engineer at Apple, the refreshers aren't really that great. I only got $28k over 4 years with 2 YOE and I know people who got only $3k (the bare minimum that everybody has to get) in certain orgs like the OSX/iOS org.

  • Microsft SV return offer (based on this year) will probably be something like 120k base, 10% target bonus, 120k RSU/3.5y, 30k signing. On the high end (no special approvals), 130k base (L60), 10% target bonus 150k RSU/3.5y, 50k signing / 2y. Target refreshers are negligible.

Apple may screw you with the return offer, something to consider in your calculus. Heard a bunch of cases where people had a verbal offer to come back for full-time and then had it revoked, apparently due to lack of req/headcount. Something similar happened to me as well.

You can probably find the threads from searching.
