Does FB demand signing bonus back if they fire someone in first year?

FB is known for giving high signing bonus. But it's also known for firing people who are not performing. So, if I get a 75k signing bonus with them and join. Would I need to worry about getting fired in first year and having to pay back the signing bonus? (Talk about adding insult to injury.)

It's prorated, so you would only pay back the remaining amount based on how long you already worked there.

Do you happen to remember from your contract whether you need to pay it back if you're involuntarily terminated?

There isn’t a clause in the contract that makes exceptions for involuntary termination.

Always read your employment contract.

Some signing bonus’ only need to be repaid if you willingly leave. Read the contract and find out what it says.

Or fired for cause.

To all the "read the contract" folks.. most of us here are at-will employees. We don't get contracts.. so the company can terminate you any time, no contract is going to save you.. I think the word you are looking for is "agreement"

Fair enough. But my employment “agreement” had all the info about repayment of bonus, etc.

Except if you're talking about a signing bonus, then there's obviously a CONTRACT related to that and not an agreement.

You need to read the contract. When I accepted my new job offer, the contract said I need to return signing bonus if I leave voluntarily or am terminated with cause. Being fired for low performance is not termination with cause. If you get fired for sexual harassment or throwing ice at your boss however then you may have to return your bonus.
