I am considering offers from both Amazon and Meta. Meta has a lot of heat right now for its political influence and societal impact. I hear some say that working for FB leaves a "Black Mark" on your career and that is causing senior talent to leave. Politics/ethics aside. Will companies really care about this? I'm more worried I'll get stuck working with hacklang.
Nope
No, you are an engineer. Your decisions are technical, the ramifications are because of actors, no one blames engineers at telecom companies for the scam calls right…
Is this a serious question?
Seriously, I think working at Meta does you more good than harm. We’re talking about a tier 1 tech company here. At least it should make your next salary negotiation a whole lot easier.
exactly, how dare you OP
“Mark of color”
Lmao no. You work at meta and recruiters will spam you. Let’s not pretend Amazon is an ethical company either…
The only black mark would be Amazon for managers
More like a green mark. Amazon is a crappy, inhumane company in many ways, but it is well managed overall and many other companies want folks experienced with data-driven decision making, rigorous business writing, creation of mechanisms and processes and so on. Of course, tech bar is all over the place - some orgs, like my old one at Amazon, had super technical and smart managers. Others had total idiots.
Sounds like media nonsense. They interview one person 'anonymously' and then its in the newspaper and then it's a trend
Post the two TCs and your YoE.
