Does Oracle DB org code distributed systems in their day to day work ?

Do they always have interesting problems to solve and algorithms to use ? Is it a great job to have on resume writing the core distributed code of Databases ? Is it difficult to get a job in database org ?

No, but their legal department does.

Please enlighten us! 😂🤔 Do You mean that their legal is scattered all over the place?

Convincing companies to pay for your shitty programming language must be harder than reaching distributed consensus. Neither Lynch nor Lamport would be able to solve that shit, and yet, somehow these unsung heroes do it daily.

The database org is well regarded, and I wouldn't worry about the larger brand either. It's big and it's legit tech. You'll get more recruiter attention with the Oracle name than with WITCH, unknown small companies, and non-tech ones. Among other tier 2 big tech companies it's anyone's guess, you'd need stats from recruitment researchers to tell

Yes. Many of the db folks are poached by fb and G. A lot of distributed systems work, we have all types of DBs inside Oracle (nosql included). For example the reason why facebook went with a sql like language for hive is because most of the engineers working on that project were from Oracle. Refreshers in dB org beat oci too and oci is a little more than faang. Very good place to be

Thank you very much for the info. Yes I am quite excited to work on such DB team using all my brain sauce, to create / optimise new features !

I work for a DB team in IDC. Not all the DB teams work on distributed systems in their daily jobs, but whatever else they work on, it's cutting edge for that filed. Btw, what team in DB are you applying for?

Oracle OraDude Sep 4, 2020

😅 I have no idea what team is working on that product.

Yes, I work in IDC
