Does anyone else get reached out to by Meta, Google, and Amazon, but never by Apple?
For some reason I never get contacted by them or get a response from them even though the reat of big companies constantly bang on my door.
I get reached out to by everyone except Google. Though Apple connections are fairly rare. But right now nobody is reaching out to me at all. The freezes are real.
I’m getting resume responses at least. Managed to get Airbnb, Stripe, Robinhood, Uber, Doordash, Snowflake, Amazon, and some others. Still not that bad
Apple don’t hire many, and normally are looking for people with specific skill set. For example, know how to speed up neural network training on device
Apple seems to reach out if you already live in the area near their office. That's been my experience.
I applied to like 30 positions, not even an automated rejection email. Then one day a recruiter reached out to me, I was like fuck yeah, this is my chance, and then proceeded to bomb the shit out of my first interview with the HM.
That was my experience. Third time was a charm though!
Before Meta, I saw a position at Apple which perfectly fitted my skills: + I have a PhD + postdoc + X yoe on that area + my employer (non-FAANG) was the market leader. In fact, Apple was paying millions for a license of the tool I was working on. + Apple has a similar open-source tool, XYZ, but it's far behind in both features and precision. + Got referral from a ICT5 who strongly supported me. Guess what, I never heard back. 6 months after joining Meta. Apple recruiter reached out to me on Linkedin: your background perfectly fit with XYZ team. Lol, at least, they didn't contact me for random ML position like Amazon. No, I'm not bitter. Willing to join Apple in the future if they make good offer. But their recruiting is a joke lol.
Haha, similar experience to you though I have much less qualifications. Applied to 3 open reqs for Apple in my area. Never heard a peep. Literally, second week into working at Amazon, recruiter contacts me.
