If you have FAANG company in your resume, will it help in your career? Like getting interviews or salary or position in large/medium companies? I never worked for any FAANG company but considering the chaos at Citrix, I am planning to switch. #amazon #facebook #google #apple #faang #career
Makes getting interviews easier but if you suck at interviewing you still won’t get hired
Should help yes. Brand helps attract recruiters and all the shit I learned here helps in interviews. Not so much on leetcode but heavily on system design. I’m currently shadowing L6 interviews and learning exactly how to pass design interviews: another FAANG privilege.
how is FAANG different from other unicorns like uber
Pre Amazon, FB rejected my resume with a network referral through repher.me. Post Amazon, FB recruiters are reaching out to me and G recruiters are calling/texting me. So yeah it helps, but I’ve also gotten interviews without the big names.
How long did you stay at amazon before you were getting recruiter by FB and google?
FB like 2 months in, G I’ve had interviews at before but they got way more aggressive in reaching out after Amazon around the same time.
I mean — I’ve never worked at FAANG but Amazon emails me every week for about 6 months now and the only company that hasn’t given me an interview at this point is Apple FWIW — brands that are “big enough” like Wayfair get the job done without being a never ending leetcode flashcard test (looking at you, Facebook)
I don’t mind the emails they’re easy enough to ignore. G has started to call my phone directly :/
Is there a selection bias in getting hired at other FAANG when you already have a FAANG on resume? I'd love to have easier interviews 🙃
I have a bias against shit companies. I also grill Microsoft and Google candidates on resume deep dive quite hard because rest and vest companies are red flags.
Can you please elaborate on the chaos?
It is mess …it was doing good from last 2-3 years (I joined in 2018) ..we had good CTO and Good CISO…then CTO changed.. now no clear direction …CISO joined good pre-ipo company … CEO got fired.. Now no clear directions…lay offs on the way …missing revenue guidance…just going south
I see, thank you!
I’ll tell you what hurts - having Citrix on your resume. Interviewers associate you with the same slow-moving, headed-towards-obsoletion mindset that defines Citrix. Notice how no ex Citrix folks have “ex-Citrix” in their LinkedIn headline. No one wants the shame. Yes, a stint at a FAANG will help launder your career clean of the stain of Citrix.
Damn, that’s a brutal description lol.
100% agree..I noticed the same thing ex-citrite never mentioned in their linked headlines as “ex-Citrix” …now I understood 👍
