Following orders from above != leadership Most middle managers or even upper management have no leadership work. If they were leaders, they would found their own companies or organizations or business or even run a home based business.. leaders can't be turned into followers.. leaders are not made by role profile, they are made by attitude, skills and work.. they are not fearful of job loss because they are "leaders".. A real estate agent running his own RE brokerage with 5 other RE agents is better leader than most of google middle managers...
It’s weird you think no one should follow orders or tasks from above. That part is completely nonsensical. Everyone should rebel? lol. No dude.
The fact that you don't understand it shows how far away you are from understanding leadership. Water and fire can't go together. Same way, following and leading are two different traits that don't mix.
Engineering manager, Product owner/manager, scrum master, have all the same job in practice: bullshiting their way up That is also the most effective way to grow as an IC
What? Beginner levels aren’t leading a thing. Managing up doesn’t mean you’re doing all the leadership.
Management is a bureaucratic hierarchy of control Leadership is setting an example and standing up for doing things the right way At Google, you can be a high level and still be an IC. Somewhat hard to get because the managers try to steal all of the higher level positions for themselves.
