Does your company let you delete messages on Slack?

Is Twitter the only company that doesn't or is this commonplace? I think it's kinda crazy Twitter let's users delete tweets but doesn't let their employees delete Slack messages. Heck, Twitter users can even make ephemeral tweets. Also, we can only edit Slack messages for 5 minutes. Maybe this isn't as big a deal for most people as it is to me but it definitely makes me second-guess myself before posting.

Does Twitter also limit slack messages to 120 char limit too?

Twitter X Γ† A-13 OP Jul 14, 2021

Hey, get with the times, tweets can be up to 280 chars now.

Why would any company have those restrictions ? How does it help them ? 😫

Twitter X Γ† A-13 OP Jul 14, 2021

Yeah, it does suck. I'm totally guessing here but I imagine it's so that people don't delete their questions after getting them answered.

You guys should stand up your own rocketchat instance and just use slack to reply to people outside your org/team πŸ˜…

We can edit/delete Teams messages and posts at M$ too. Don’t know of a time limit if it exists. But, have edited several days old messages in the past.

It is legal policy to deal with retention issues pertaining to different litigation matters. Basically, you get sued you are obligated to keep shit instead of tossing it in the garbage

Target artchokedp Jul 15, 2021

Target used to not allow it, but in ways is more problematic because it means incorrect/misleading information is etched in stone. You can also imagine what happens in a 10,000+ #general channel when you can’t delete. I was very glad when the policy changed.
