The politicians in the US keep saying they voted to "ban" TikTok because the Chinese Communist Party is effectively spying on American users' phones. My understanding is - 1. Mobile OS's like iOS and Android don't just let any app access all the data all the time. You have to allow each app to access Photo Gallery, Location, etc. Even then there are further protections/warnings/reminders given by the OS 2. US TikTok data is stored by Oracle on US soil - so how can the Chinese government even access this data? They can't...right? Wouldn't it be easier to simply ask iOS and Android to limit TikTok's access to data?
I believe you can ask the app not to track you but it’s not guaranteed they won’t, they can ignore your request. You can also read the T&C before DLing, which most don’t. If you care you just don’t DL it.
The fact that tiktok ceo sent massive fanout notifications to all users to asking them to take some action was a huge red flag. Also Chinese bytedance employees can access US data without any extra permission. Basically chinese employees can do whatever they want without tiktok approval
How many people regularly check their permissions? These apps probably are asking for almost all permissions on the phone and most the folks just yes to everything they ask.
I'm not exactly sure what data being stored on US soil has to do with the CCP not being able to get their hands on the data or not being able to influence content shown.
surely that means CCP cannot access it right? otherwise what's the point of putting the data in the US
If you trust a politician idk what to tell ya
i clearly dont so thats why im asking
Didn't mean you, just in general felt like making the comment
