Got laid off and I'm currently on an H1-B visa and after several months of job hunting, I'm finally receiving interview opportunities. My aim is to secure a position at big tech, but I've only received an interview from a startup so far, and they're looking to hire quickly. If they offer me the job, can I accept but request a start date two months later, allowing me to continue pursuing opportunities with bigger companies? Considering my H1-B visa status, is it possible to decline the startup's offer later if I receive a better opportunity? I'm concerned about initiating the H1-B transfer process with the startup and then facing complications if I choose to accept an offer from another company. I'd really appreciate any advice or insights. Thank you.
I got a job offer from A and accepted it and got my H1 approval, and my joining was a week away, but I kept interviewing and got another offer from B. I told A I can't join them and joined B, I was lucky that the company I was working for extended my job for another month and joined B. Given the market conditions, I would accept any offer I get and IF/WHEN you get another offer, take that.
Accept it and leave startup whenever you get a job. They didn’t cared about you when you were chopped so why you are caring
No, you can’t accept and push hire date 2 months.
Just take offer and go join in 2 weeks. Keep looking and if you get a better offer leave the startup. This is not the time to be nice :)
2 months later? And you are getting these two offers after a lot of hunting? Something doesn’t add up. H1b has 60 days to find a job. So by your timeline, you are a liar.
What will he gain by lying anonymously? He could be knowing few months in advance that he’s getting laid off. I think you stop being toxic. I pity the people working with you
People have switched to b1/b2 visa from h1 to get a job. So let’s not call someone a liar
You can get visa transfer to n companies at same time , ensure you are only employed only one company at any time example , working in company A , got offer from B and C , both initiated transfer , you decided to join B , after visa approval in both you can join which ever you like , if after joining B , you felt that option not great for you , you can simply move to company C without any additional paper work , I have seen and one time experienced as well
U habe 2 months how did you search for months
I would start employment on the startup h-1b, and couple months later when your big tech h-1b gets approved, you make the switch. Been in this same spot before.
And people wonder why startups don’t want to hire H1Bs
In this economy, don't play games. There are hundreds of thousands of SWEs looking. Don't you only have 60 days to find a job?
