This is really getting worst day by day. Many north Indians and Andra people speak in Hindi in team space and lunch during a non Hindi speaking INDIAN presence BUT mostly avoid during the presence of a non Indian. This is a double standard. They don't care a shit when a non Hindi speaking Indian presence, they keep talking in Hindi even though they know I don't understand Hindi ( even after fucking I told them several times). This is across all companies, groups and teams. I worked in a dozen of companies in USA. Same everywhere. These Hindi speakers even talk to me directly in Hindi again and again even after telling them I don't understand a shit in Hindi being a Tamilian. Why don't you fucking talk in Hindi to an American? Why you think you have a previleged to talk in Hindi in the presence of non Hindi speaking Indian but not in the presence of non Indian? Understand these first. 1. About 95% Tamilians, don't fucking understand Hindi. 2. These 95% of Tamilians don't hate Hindi. They simply don't understand and never got a chance to learn. It's like a Mandarin to them. 3. Who knows Hindi in Tamil Nadu? Only those who studied in CBSC which is about 2%, mulism tamilians which about 3% ( not all Muslim in TN) and Bramins which is about 0.5% (again not all bramins in TN) and 0.1% who learned on special interest or by other means. 4. Again I or most tamilians don't hate Hindi. We never got a chance to learn. We Don't fucking understand it. You fucking understand that. 5. Tamilian don't hate North Indians. We simply get irritated when you speak Hindi even after knowing we don't understand a shit in Hindi. So, treat Tamilians and other non Hindi speaking Indians with the same way you treat a non Indian. I admit even tamilians speak in Tamil in front of North indian. It's same fucking ridiculous double standard. Regardless North or South, most Indians have this double standard. But tamilians are worst affected in this because they're minority in most teams
Speaking any language in presence of coworkers that does not speak the language is plain rude
They should go back to Indian if they want to talk that language everywhere, imo
I think you misspelled Indiana pal

Speak in English. Problem solved. (I’m Indian) US only has one official language - English.
Yes, that's the common language. Everyone at workplace knows English. Just speak in English.
I don't think US has 'official' language
Btw, English is not US official language. This was the fact I read in 2008. Not sure if changed
Do you have statistics to prove only tamilian do that? IMO, it happens accross all community peoples. Not just tamilians. And, this is off topic to thread.
He said South Indians - Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, all of which are in South India. OP, I understand your frustration, but don't you think you are perpetuating stereotypes as well?
Just try to talk to them and explain that I don’t understand Hindi even though I am Indian.
Told several times. They keep doing it. Sometimes avoid but not most of the times. It's not just in my current team, same everywhere.
Fuck the low life scums who form groups and talk in their own languages in the presence of others. In the workplace, English should be the only acceptable language to converse in. PS: I'm an immigrant myself and English wasn't my first language growing up but I always make it a point to converse in English at the workplace.
I hate anyone speaking in any language other than English at work. It sounds so pathetic and bring bad name to our country of origin (India). But surprised at this complaint from a tamilian. They do it in front of everyone, speaking loudly in Tamil. It sounds so embarrassing. My Russian colleague asked me the other day if it’s normal for Indians to do that. Well he does not know difference between a Tamil and nontamil. He thought all Indians are like this. And I am not a North Indian
Can you tell the difference without understanding the language?
Reply back to them in Tamil 🙂
