Anyone else out there at SAP notice the amount of downtime in their role or other roles? This is my second role here outside of my internship and I’ve noticed that everyone seems to have quite a bit of free time. People barely work 8 hr shifts. People come in at 9:30ish, go to the gym during their shift, take lunch, and still leave around 4. Am I the only one to notice this? & For people outside of SAP, is this something you’ve noticed at your company?
What is your role?
Sounds about right. That’s why I quit. SAP is a retirement company
You mean long periods of time when the SAP application doesn't work? Yeah I've seen that.
Welcome to Enterprise
Not at SAP, but my department was always a ghost town after about 4:30 every day. People would regularly come in 9:30-10, take long lunches (golfing was a popular lunch past time), and then leave early and "VPN when (they got) home."
What did you do with your free time? I’m finding myself so bored that it makes me want to find a new job. I try to spend time on things like developing new skills but I’m running out of things to think of. Any suggestions?
I would go to the gym or take a brief walk for most of my breaks. Usually, I would hit my peak production time in the afternoon/evening, so that's when I was able to really focus on work. I generally had enough things to do to stay busy for the whole time I was in the office (10+ hours during the week). If I found I was running out of work to do, I asked the lead devs that I was doing production work for if they had anything they needed done that I could help with, and I managed to get a couple of small 'out of my comfort zone' projects to work on and save them some time.
What location?
I’ve been over 100% utilize in the last 13 years I have very little free time
